Have you seen “motivational” pages that constantly say: “Work from 9 am to 5 pm on your job, and hustle on your passion from 7 pm to 1 am”?
The thing is that this approach is unrealistic.
When you reach home after 5 p.m. (or after 9 p.m. for those in OT culture), you're so exhausted.
You need the weekends to recharge for the next week.
How are you going to work on anything else?
In today’s newsletter, I will share a better approach to working on your passion without burning out.
Social media is a great tool for sharing content, but the problem arises when certain best-performing content gets repeated repeatedly on the internet.
Especially with posts that support the “hustle culture”.
So perhaps the solution would be this:
Work on what you love.
Before you accuse me of giving "feel good" advice, let me explain in 2 ways why this is practical:
1) You don’t necessarily have to start a business
It can mean working a job where your strengths and passions are utilised.
In today’s economy, you have more options to choose from for your career compared to the past.
You can choose one that aligns with your passion without having to give up the stability of a monthly salary.
2) Save up 6 months’ worth of cash
You can save up 6 months' worth of cash and take a sabbatical (or unpaid leave) to build a business/self-employment career.
With tools easily acquired from the internet, you can start a zero-dollar startup and build an automated business at a low cost.
Either way, you'll end up with a job you love (where the hours don't matter so much anymore) or a business that can sustain you.
If the business fails, well, you lose 6 months of savings and you can save it back through your job.
Conclusion
What am I trying to get at here?
It's to remind everyone (and social media pages) not to blindly repost advice without taking things into context.
And to recap, here are the two practical alternatives to this:
You don’t necessarily have to start a business
Save up 6 months’ worth of cash
Let's start taking a step towards a more interesting life.
See you next week.
